How do you dispose of used Mounjaro pens?
Used Mounjaro needles must be placed straight into a sharps bin after each injection—never into household rubbish or recycling. Once the needle has been removed and secured in the sharps bin, the empty Mounjaro pen (without the needle) can go into household waste or into the sharps container. The pens are not recyclable. When your sharps bin is about three-quarters full, lock it and arrange disposal through your local council’s clinical waste collection service or return it via a participating pharmacy or GP practice. If a pen still contains medicine or has been stored incorrectly, speak with a pharmacist or healthcare professional about safe disposal.
- Always put used needles in a sharps bin immediately; never discard them loose in household waste.
- Remove the needle first; the empty pen can go into household waste or a sharps bin (not recyclable).
- Lock your sharps bin when three-quarters full and arrange council collection or pharmacy/GP return.
- Do not overfill or try to compress the contents of a sharps bin.
- If a pen still contains medicine or has been stored incorrectly, ask a pharmacist for advice.
