How is Mounjaro stored? Does it need refrigeration?
Mounjaro (tirzepatide) should be kept in a refrigerator at 2–8°C in its original carton to protect it from light. Do not freeze it—any pen that has been frozen must be discarded. Unopened pens must stay refrigerated until use, but once in use, a pen can be kept at room temperature (up to 30°C) for a limited period. After this time, it must be thrown away. Always check the patient leaflet or ask a pharmacist for the UK-specific time limit for your pen.
Keep Mounjaro away from heat sources, direct sunlight, and places with temperature swings, such as fridge doors or cars. If a pen has been left out, it may be returned to the fridge provided it has not exceeded the permitted room-temperature limit and has not been exposed to temperatures above 30°C. If the liquid looks cloudy, discoloured, or contains particles, or if you are unsure about storage conditions, do not use it—seek advice from a pharmacist.
